A keen surfer, Daniel Edward Dietch (pronounced DYEch) attemps to bring the feeling of catching waves with him wherever he goes, by staying on a board. That means he uses his longboard to get around his half-square-mile town of 6,000 as often as he can.​ Besides longboarding around town, his hobbies include advocating for better environmental practices in the town, and taking care of his two boys.

A resident of Surfside, FL for 18 years, Dietch is a community advocate, environmental scientist and bringer of positive change. After serving Surfside in several volunteer capacities, including Chairman of the Planning & Zoning and Design Review Boards, he ran for mayor and was elected in 2010. He served for five terms.

Besides his time in elected office,  Dietch is an environmental consultant, which has helped him to shape policies that benefit the Surfside community. He has more than 20 years of experience in solid waste planning, including work in MASDAR; Collier County, Florida; and Broward County, Florida and is widely published in solid waste planning.

On a 2020 visit to the lovely town of Surfside, Florida, Daniel Dietch was running for his fifth mayoral re-election against Charles Burkett. The creators of the fan club noticed the amazing effort Dietch put into his town, highlighted by his hand-drawn campaign signs and longboarding routes, and decided to make a fan site appreciating everything Dietch has done for Surfside.
